Keep Our Drains Flowing – What Not to Put Down the Sink

Help us keep our park running smoothly by being mindful of what goes down the sink and toilet. Blocked drains can cause messy, unpleasant problems for everyone, and they’re often caused by things that don’t belong in the pipes!

Please avoid washing leftover food, fat, grease, and even salt down the sink. We know many of you use salt to reduce condensation over the winter, but once it’s no longer needed, please dispose of it in the bin rather than rinsing it away. Salt can build up in the pipes and contribute to blockages. Similarly, items like wet wipes, sanitary products, and anything other than toilet paper should never be flushed down the toilet, as they can clog the system and cause environmental harm.

By disposing of waste properly, we can all do our part to keep the park clean and enjoyable for everyone. Thanks for your help!

2025 is a milestone year for Britain’s railways, especially here at Skegness Water Leisure Park, marking 200 years since the first passenger train ran on the Stockton & Darlington Railway. To celebrate Rail 200, events are taking place across the UK.
In the Park, the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway will open its new Seathorne Bank station, the 65th anniversary of being the world’s first heritage railway built by enthusiasts. This new station will preserve part of Skegness’s railway history and Ellis Bros (Contractors) Ltd’s legacy.
Thanks to the Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund and Ellis Bros’ contribution, the station features an interpretation centre in a restored Victorian coal office from Skegness station. This building now houses a display about the railway and the company. There are also toilet facilities, picnic areas, a souvenir shop, and lovely views of the Wolds.
You’ll need to take the train to get there, and three of its carriages are celebrating their centenary. Two were once part of the Ashover Light Railway in Derbyshire, while the third is the award-winning “Queen Mary,” which once carried shooting parties on the Nocton Estates Railway. The train is pulled by the 120-year-old steam engine Jurassic on Saturdays, with historic “Simplex” diesel locos and a World War One battlefield carriage on other days.
Fares are just £2 return or £5 for a family of two adults and up to three children (under 3’s and dogs travel free)—the best value of any heritage railway in the UK. Cash only.
For just £10 a year, you can join the volunteers who keep the railway running, receiving full training to become a train driver, guard, or station master.
*The LCLR led the way, followed by the Ocean Beach Railway in New Zealand (1963) and the Rass Chijin Railway in Japan (1973), with volunteers from each sharing a special friendship agreement.
Check operating dates at www.lclr.co.uk before visiting, as the railway operates on selected dates.

It’s been a productive and eventful 2024 for the team as we continue our steady work to restore the aircraft to its former glory. Over the spring and summer, we addressed the repair of the platform handrails and removed the cockpit instrument fairings in preparation for upcoming repairs. With every step we are getting closer to returning the aircraft to its intended condition.

During the summer, we relocated the workshop, which temporarily paused work on the aircraft. With the move now complete, we’ve resumed tackling a range of long-postponed tasks. One of the first jobs was removing the nose wheel door strut, which has since undergone rust treatment and repainting. We’re delighted with the results, as the strut has been reattached and looks as good as new.

At the same time, we’ve made significant progress on other key components. The shimmy damper and centring unit for the nose wheel were removed, cleaned, and treated for rust. Early results are promising, with the shimmy damper already showing substantial improvement. After completing the stripping of the shimmy damper and associated parts, the components are now ready for final fettling before moving on to the priming stage.

As the colder months arrived, we placed the aircraft under its winter cover and shifted our focus to workshop-based tasks. This includes repairing items removed during the summer and preparing for what we expect to be a busy and productive 2025. Our efforts will continue to focus on careful restoration and maintenance, ensuring every component is returned to its best possible condition. The team has also taken on some additional smaller tasks, balancing detailed restoration work with efficient planning for the year ahead.

We’re also excited to announce the relaunch of our newly redesigned website (www.xs456.info), which is now fully operational. The refreshed design provides a user-friendly platform to share updates on our progress and engage with the wider community. Along with this, we’ve updated our Facebook page (XS456 Lightning T.5) to share news and connect with visitors.

As the year winds down, the team is taking a well-earned break to recharge and reflect on the progress made. With the groundwork laid and the workshop fully operational, we’re looking forward to diving into 2025 with renewed energy. Our plans include tackling new projects and continuing the restoration with determination.

We would like to take the time to thank Skegness Water Leisure Park for their continued support and everyone who visited us in 2024. We look forward to seeing you again in 2025.
